Meet Chris Burgess
Chris grew up in Camden County, NC and is a Dredge Captain on the Dredge Charleston.
The Dredge Captain oversees the day to day operations of the dredge including pipeline movements, anchor placement, weather considerations and maintenance.
Responsibilities include ensuring the dredge has enough personnel and equipment to continue its mission and that the crew is prepared for changes in weather, vessel traffic, equipment and other challenges that occur daily.
Having worked with Norfolk Dredging for 22 years, Chris believes a strong work ethic and self motivation are critical to being successful in this business.
His favorite aspects of the job is variety - “almost every day is something different”. One piece of advice for someone getting into dredging - “Be ready to work!”.
In his spare time Chris likes to spend time with family, ride his motorcycles, and fish - and enjoy prime rib.
